Mentico Ltd (company number 16510481) operates Peruse. Our registered office is 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. We are the controller of your personal data.

Peruse is for people aged 18 and over. Contact us at hello@mentico.uk.

You submit a YouTube link. We fetch the public captions, send them to an AI provider to write a summary (OpenAI or Anthropic, depending on how the service is configured), and show you that summary. You can copy or download a Markdown file that includes the summary and the transcript.

If you publish a share link, the summary and the transcript are placed on a public page. Search engines may index that page. Rights holders can ask us to review or remove a share page; see the Copyright page.

Your use of YouTube content must comply with YouTube's terms. Where we use Google or YouTube APIs for internal features such as sample videos, we follow Google's applicable API policies for that use.

Account

• Email address and name, both required when you sign up
• Password, stored only as a hash
• Confirmation and password-reset links, stored only as a hash until they expire or are used
• Plan, and Stripe customer and subscription identifiers if you pay

Summaries

• YouTube URL, title, thumbnail, and duration
• Transcript, summary, and any clickbait score
• Language and answer type (Full, Short, or anti-clickbait only)
• Bookmark status
• The summary request and the generated summary, saved as messages
• Credit usage for that summary

Preferences

• Preferred transcript language and answer type, on your account
• The same two settings in this browser, only if you allow preference storage

Shared cache

• Video details and transcripts stored by video and language, not by your account

Limits and security

• A count of failed sign-ins for an email address, kept per UTC hour. Nothing deletes these rows on a schedule
• Counters for the shared guest pool and for new signups. These are not tied to a person, and the guest counter is not keyed by IP address

Bug reports

• The message you send, the page path, browser label, app version, and your account id when you report a bug while signed in

Copyright requests

• Name, email, share URL, and statement when a rights holder submits a takedown request

Connection data

Our host, Vercel, processes your IP address and user agent to serve the site. PostHog receives the same kind of technical data and a session recording of the visit without waiting for a cookie choice, so we can see why a landing visit stops. If you allow analytics, Meta receives that technical data too.

You can summarize a video without an account. We do not create a guest profile. The summary and transcript for that visit stay in this browser tab until you close it, or until you sign in and save the summary to an account.

The shared caption cache may also keep that transcript, without your identity attached.

• Contract: to provide your account and the summary you asked for
• Legitimate interests: to keep the service secure, enforce usage limits, and keep the shared caption cache
• Consent: for analytics and for storing language and answer type in this browser
• Legal obligation: to keep billing records where the law requires it

• Resend delivers confirmation and password-reset emails

• OpenAI or Anthropic receives the transcript so it can write the summary. We use their APIs only to provide the service. We do not train our own models on your content. See OpenAI's privacy policy and Anthropic's privacy policy
• Linear stores bug reports you submit while signed in. See Linear's privacy policy
• Vercel hosts Peruse. Vercel Analytics runs only after you allow analytics. See Vercel's privacy policy
• PostHog, hosted in the US, receives a page view and a session recording of the visit without waiting for a cookie choice. This is a short study of landing visits. See PostHog's privacy policy
• Meta receives a page view and a landing Send click through the Meta Pixel only after you allow analytics, so we can measure ads. See Meta's privacy policy
• YouTube is the source of the public captions for the video you submit
• Hosted PostgreSQL stores the account, summary, and cache data described above

We do not sell personal data.

• Account, history, messages, preferences, and credit logs: while your account exists
• Account deletion: removes that data and the share pages you created
• Deleting one conversation: removes that conversation and its messages. It does not remove a public share page already created from it
• Shared caption cache: can remain, because it is not linked to your account
• Failed sign-in counts: stay until we remove those rows
• Cookie choice: 12 months
• Sign-in cookie: 30 days
• Billing records: as long as tax and accounting rules require
• Copyright requests: as long as needed to handle the request and any follow-up

You can ask us to:

• Access your personal data, or send you a copy
• Correct it, delete it, or restrict how we use it
• Object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Withdraw consent for analytics or preference storage

Email hello@mentico.uk. We respond within 30 days. There is no button that downloads your whole account. You can delete the account from your profile. To withdraw a cookie choice, use the Cookies link in the bottom-left corner of any page.

You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

• Essential: auth-token keeps you signed in. cookie-consent stores this choice. These are always on
• Preferences: language and answer type in local storage. Off until you allow them
• Analytics: PostHog records the visit and a session without waiting for a cookie choice. Vercel Analytics and the Meta Pixel stay off until you allow them

A guest summary also sits in this tab's session storage until the tab is closed or you save it to an account. That storage is not a cookie.
